JKI Course 3: Relaxation
A Stepping Stone Toward Building Postural Strength and Health
A four-day course focusing on relaxation of horse and rider.
Course booklets containing articles and Power Point material included. Content is discussed in a classroom setting and later applied during lessons. Teaching materials and exercises focus on equine functional anatomy and neurology specifically relating to and eliciting relaxation.
Course ScheduleĀ | What to Expect:
Day One and Two:
Lectures, videos, readings and discussions focused on:
- What is relaxation
- Why is relaxation a prerequisite to building postural strength
- Gateways to physical and mental relaxation: The Stomatognathic system, tongue, hyoid, TNJ, atlanto-axial joint, and dental mechanics
- Why educating horses to the bit through lateral flexions are important for healthy postures
- How to correctly fit a cavesson and bridle
- How might bits help or hinder the relaxation process
- How do horses bend and why is it important
- Identifying important palpation points of the horses head and neck and learning how to manually ask for a release of the horses mouth and soft lateral flexion
